Parkinson's disease

Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disorder that affects the brain and causes problems controlling the nerve signals that control your movements. The disease usually starts after the age of 55 and cannot be cured, but there are treatments and medicines that can relieve symptoms.

Parkinson’s disease causes damage to the cells that make dopamine, a neurotransmitter used by the brain to send signals between brain cells. Parkinson’s disease affects around 1 in 100 people over the age of 60, and men are more likely to be affected than women. Although the cause of the disease is not fully understood, several factors are known to be involved, including heredity and environmental factors.

We assess and treat early-stage Parkinson’s disease at our clinic.
